About Me
My name is Luke Wilkins, I'm 18 years old and I'm a Christian standing as an Independent candidate in the General Election 2010. I was born in Long Eaton and I care for our community deeply. Although I'm young don't let that put you off voting for me, I think being young is a good quality, I've got excellent experience and if I'm elected will possibly be the youngest MP in modern British history.
My experience is with the United Kingdom Youth Parliament where I helped represent Derbyshire within the East Midlands region contributing with my views and opinions. My other experience is with a Government project called 'Myplace' where I was one of 5 young people that spent £220 million on behalf of the 'Department for Children Schools and Families' throughout the country on world class youth facilities and buildings.
Other experiences include being elected as a member of the Derbyshire Youth Councilfor Erewash by young people. I was in office for 2 years achieving many things, giving out funding to youth projects for all over Derbyshire and Erewash. Successful projects like the 'Petersham Muga', 'Funding for Long Eaton Youth Centre'. Also in the Derbyshire Youth Council I got the opportunity to shadow local County Councillors and got the opportunity to be on the 'Derbyshire Connexions Management Board' where I got the opportunity to open the new Long Eaton Connexions centre. Finally I also have experience with the 'Youth of today' group which are a national group which aim to change the image of young people. My experience with them was part of the issuing of funding to youth leadership projects encouraging young people to become leaders in their own communities.
